COERR Mae Sariang Organized Saturday Activity focusing on Fire Prevention Campaign

   On March 4, 2017, a Saturday Activity was organized by COERR Mae Sariang to have young refugees participate as volunteers in community fire prevention campaign in their camps: Ban Mae Lama Luang and Ban Mae La Oon.

   The activity process was to have COERR staff taught the young refugees to realize the importance of the fire prevention, to do volunteer services, to raise community awareness as well as to strengthen relationship with community household.

   Firstly, youth gathered to listen about the need to do fire prevention, benefit of sand and water bags in fire stopping.

   Secondly, youth practiced to carefully and quickly fill sand bags and water bags in which they could finish in short time.

   Thirdly, youth were divided into groups to separately march along the camp sections and reach as many houses where elderly refugees lived, in which they were warmly welcome.

   The group leaders explained reason of visiting houses for fire prevention and youth checked the sand bags and water bags placed in these houses and replaced the torn and leaked bags then moved to a new house.

   When the campaign march and volunteer service finished, youth had a feeling of happiness that their activities were complete and they had received warm welcome from the community.

   The Saturday Activity in Ban Mae Lama Luang camp had 187 young refugees, consisting of 99 girls and 88 boys and in Ban Mae La Oon camp had 214 youth, consisting of 109 girls and 105 boys, participate in such useful volunteering service.

In Ban Mae Lama Luang camp, 187 children separately marched to household and replaced the leaked bags with the new sand and water bags for fire prevention purpose.

In Ban Mae La Oon camp, 214 children spent their Saturday doing volunteer service on fire prevention campaign.
